Gardiner Main Street encourages its downtown’s economic and cultural vitality through concentrated efforts of organization, design, promotion and economic revitalization, while protecting Gardiner’s unique historic character.
The primary purpose of Gardiner Main Street is to strengthen the City of Gardiner as a hub for community, commerce and culture.
We do this by focusing on the following community transformation strategies:
Cultural Connections: Cultivate and create a strong and accessible arts and craft cultural community including support for Johnson Hall, Artwalk Gardiner, Maine ‘Makers’ and local artisans.
Wellness and Recreation: Connect and promote our wellness community and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Local Business: Expand our local foods/craft beverage movement and advocate for new and existing businesses
Welcoming Community: Position Gardiner as a family friendly, safe, walkable, welcoming community.
History and Heritage: Emphasize the history and heritage of the community: its work, dwellings, people, and accomplishment
As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Gardiner Main Street is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center.
