Due to the large steel beams needed to be placed for Johnson Hall’s upper floor balconies and stage, a large crane will be placed in the street on Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 13 (possibly 9/14 as needed). On these dates vehicles will not be allowed on Water Street from the post office intersection with Brunswick Avenue through the end of the block at Church Street between 6:30am – 4:00pm.
Sidewalks will be open to pedestrian traffic will still be allowed and there will be proper signage and flaggers directing both traffic and guiding people on foot as to where they can safely pass to enter the businesses on the street. The park between the Blind Pig and Johnson Hall will need to be closed for much of this time.
Public parking behind the downtown buildings the Arcade lot will be open, as well as street parking on other surrounding blocks. Easily access Water Street on foot from the Arcade Parking area through a passthrough near the center of the block. More info here.
Your patience and understanding with this disruption is appreciated as we await the incredible impact the finished opera house will have on our downtown.
Travel downtown with caution during this time, or please make an extra effort to support our local businesses when the road disruption is clear.
