Did you know there is a children’s garden in Gardiner’s Waterfront Park? Everyone is
invited, children and adults, to visit the garden and enjoy the new red and white
toadstools created by Rafael Clariot, a local artist.
In the summer of 2025, GardinerMain Street volunteers followed the dream of Kathy Brown and John Woytowicz in the creation of a garden for children. Aware of the potential for yearly flooding, native
perennial plants were chosen for their whimsy and colors, but especially for
sustainability after flooding. A path gently crosses the garden, inviting children to walk
into the garden and sit on one of the new toad stools. Thanks to the volunteers who
covered the soil with compost and planted the new plants, creating a charming and
welcoming garden on the waterfront. Thanks also to City of Gardiner Public Works for
their ongoing care of all the gardens on the Waterfront this year. Take a walk along the
Waterfront and enjoy the beautiful gardens now in full bloom, including the children’s
garden.
